Testosterone cypionate is an injectable ester of testosterone used in provider-supervised hormone therapy programs. Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance, and it is prescription-only. A licensed provider prescribes at their own discretion, based on medical necessity established during a required consultation; if they do, a US-licensed compounding pharmacy prepares it. Compounded preparations are not FDA-approved, and the FDA has not evaluated claims about them.
